Mornings by the River: Uniting Community and shaping a Family-centric New West

Throughout July, New West Family Place had the opportunity to expand outside our indoor playroom and venture to the great outdoors. While overlooking the Fraser River, families joined our team on Tuesdays to enjoy Mornings by the River with colouring activities, musical engagements, and the wild wonders of tube city. Our pop-up events acted as a pit stop for children to release their creative energy, and parents to relax in the cool shade. With support from the City of New Westminster  Parks and Recreation, Mornings by the River has helped introduce new families to existing members, sharing the greatness of love and community that Family Place aims to achieve.

Initiatives

Mornings by the River are more than a collection of activities for families to participate in. By hosting stress-free events, families can strengthen their bonds, building a sense of inclusion. Hosting mornings by the river has expanded our community networks, enabling our team and the local residents to connect with each other. Our diverse range of activities ensure that there is something for everyone, regardless of their age. This inclusivity encourages an atmosphere where families feel valued and respected.

Cultivating Family-friendly environments

Currently, Family Place is working alongside the city of New West Parks and Recreation to prioritize family-friendly environments through summer programming that are free of charge. Parents expressed their appreciation for Mornings by the River, highlighting their children’s enjoyment. By integrating outdoor activities and creating safe, welcoming spaces to gather we are contributing to a broader vision where families of New West can connect in their natural surroundings. Family Place has a variety of programs and workshops aimed to make families feel more comfortable. For more information, please see our programs.

Radiating Compassion

The genuine smiles and heartfelt greetings exchanged among attendees guides Family Place staff today. A touching moment that occurred during our event that captured the love we aim to foster, was shared when a parent expressed their appreciation and trust in family place staff members. Moments like these highlight the deep impact our teams care can have on our community. Family place stems from love, and in every event, program, and workshop we host, we learn how to embrace our community members.
